The Gary Common Council is now complete with nine members, following Myles Tolliver’s Democratic caucus win for the at-large seat vacated by Marian Ivey who now represents the 4th District.
April will be another busy month for the Council as it will be making appointments to boards and commissions.
The Council will look to fill vacancies at the Redevelopment Commission, Transportation Board, Gary Community School Board, Economic Development Commission, Fire Civil Service Commission and Police Civil Service Commission.

With spring’s arrival last month and summer quickly approaching, the Parks Department is urgently moving to ensure Gary’s parks are safe and operable. Parks Director Mattiee Fitzgerald and Parks Department staff have also been tidying up city parks over the last few weeks, and department officials said they are nearly 60% complete with parks projects.
