Many of the decisions regarding infrastructure, housing, and development projects will be finalized in the coming months.
The Gary Redevelopment Commission is laying the groundwork for the pending demolition of the Genesis Center by approving the purchase of storage containers that will be used to salvage usable materials, including wood, flooring, and staging equipment.
Progress has also been made on the hotel planned for the Hard Rock Casino site. Two lots on Thompson Street were awarded to First Metropolitan Builders as part of the larger development plan for the proposed 200-room hotel and museum associated with the Michael Jackson estate.
The state is expected to finalize funding for the convention center later this month, with a projected timeline of 12 months for design and 24 months for construction.
The commission also approved an environmental contractor to assess the Gleason Park and Gilroy Stadium site near Indiana University Northwest’s campus to determine how it can be reactivated for athletic programs in partnership with the university.
