What I do at Capital B

I cover the multiple entities of Gary’s political and governmental landscape, including the Mayor’s Office, Common Council and numerous decision-making bodies within the city. I also monitor how the city is affected by decisions made at the county and state levels. But above all, I track how all political and bureaucratic decisions impact the lives of the people of Gary.

Why I came to Capital B

Simply put, I love this city and have always felt its residents deserve a news organization that informs, inspires, and celebrates them. Capital B’s mission of dedication to that end drew me to this role. After spending three years as a media consultant within our Common Council, I am thrilled to use the institutional knowledge I’ve gained there in a way that truly benefits our community.

What I do In my free time

Outside of reading, collecting music is my No.1 passion. I spend endless hours on the weekends in the R&B, jazz and hip-hop sections of various record stores.

The album I’m listening to right now

A few months ago, while hunting for records, I came across an original vinyl of Jr. Walker & The All Stars. I spin it often.

My Favorite Black Storytellers/ Creators

Since the 2017 release of  “I Am Not Your Negro,” featuring James Baldwin, I’ve become enamored with his writing. His novel, “Just Above My Head,” has quickly risen to my favorites list.
