Here’s a look at some important public meetings scheduled in Gary this November.
Gary public schools
We’ve got our eyes on a Nov. 14 meeting for the Gary Community School Corporation held by MGT Management, the emergency manager contracted to run the school district amid the state’s takeover of GCSC, and the appointed advisory school board.
You should, too, especially as local leaders navigate the path back to local control of the district. This is only the third meeting held with the advisory board, which was established in July and will assume more control of the school district next July, as MGT’s mandate expires. And in case you missed it: Gary Community School Corporation recently proposed closing the district’s last two public middle schools.
Common Council
We are monitoring a Gary Common Council meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, on the second floor of City Hall. A couple of council members who, like Mayor Jerome Prince, lost campaigns to keep their seats in May, will also be departing soon. It will be interesting to see what business the council tries to finish before the end of the year, and what they leave for the next iteration of the council and new mayoral administration.
Housing Authority
The Gary Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will hold its next regular board meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in the boardroom on the second floor of the Gary Housing Authority Central Office, located at 578 Broadway.
